Personalities influence spatial responses to environmental fluctuations in wild fish

2017

Abstract Although growing evidence supports the idea that animal personality can explain plasticity in response to changes in the social environment, it remains to be tested whether it can explain spatial responses of individuals in the face of natural environmental fluctuations. This is a major challenge in ecology and evolution as spatial dynamics link individual‐ and population‐level processes. In this study, we investigated the potential of individual personalities to predict differences in fish behaviour in the wild. Specifically, our goal was to answer if individual differences in plasticity of space use to sea surface temperature could be explained by differences in personality along …

Personality and movie preferences: A comparison of American and German audiences

1993

Abstract The impact of personality type (extraversion, neuroticism, psychoticism) and culture (American, German) on preferences for contemporary movies was explored. Consistent with theoretical expectations, the findings revealed that movie preferences were mediated by both the psychoticism and extraversion personality types and by an interaction between psychoticism by culture.

A Type A and Type D Combined Personality Typology in Essential Hypertension and Acute Coronary Syndrome Patients: Associations with Demographic, Psyc…

2016

Many studies have focused on Type A and Type D personality types in the context of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), but nothing is known about how these personality types combine to create new profiles. The present study aimed to develop a typology of Type A and Type D personality in two groups of patients affected by and at risk for coronary disease. The study involved 711 patients: 51.6% with acute coronary syndrome, 48.4% with essential hypertension (mean age = 56.4 years; SD = 9.7 years; 70.7% men). Cluster analysis was applied. External variables, such as socio-demographic, psychological, lifestyle, and clinical parameters, were assessed. Six groups, each with its own unique combined pe…

EMG assessment of chewing behaviour for food evaluation: Influence of personality characteristics

2007

Abstract The aim of the present study was to evaluate the chewing behaviour stability over time and the influence of personality characteristics on chewing behaviour in order to assess the use of EMG for food assessment. From a set of eighty three subjects, thirty-two subjects were classified as personality type A or B (Jenkins Activity Survey questionnaire) and then recruited for the experimentation. Two types of assays were performed: Assay I: chewing gum for 10 chews and Assay II: chewing gum for 50 s. Only in two cases (6.3%) did the subject change his/her chewing behaviour; in the other cases, subjects’ chewing behaviour was stable over time (two months test). In both assays significan…

Personality Types and Applicant Reactions in Real-life Selection

2013

The study aimed to determine if an applicant's personality type is associated with his/her reactions (fairness perceptions, face validity perceptions, and predictive validity perceptions) to the selection process. The participants (N = 258) were real-life applicants for admission to a vocational school. A person-centered approach was applied to find subgroups with similar personality profiles. Latent profile analysis found four personality types: Resilient (45%), Overcontrolled (13%), Undercontrolled (10%), and Bohemian (32%). The Resilient and Bohemian personality types had more favorable perceptions of test fairness than the Overcontrolled type. Personality type did not affect face validi…

Association between Satisfaction with Life and Personality Types A and D in Young Women with Acne Vulgaris

2020

People with acne vulgaris report a lower level of satisfaction with life and are more frequently classified as having Type D personalities than those without acne. This research examined, for the first time, the moderating and mediating role of personality type in the relationship between acne severity and satisfaction with life. Among 300 female nursing and cosmetology students ranging in age from 19 to 24 years (M = 21.28, SD= 1.39), 150 individuals (50%) presented with symptoms of acne vulgaris (AV group), while the other 150 (50%) were categorized as controls without acne vulgaris (WAV sample). A cross-sectional study was conducted using three self-report questionnaires: The Satisfactio…

Fairness behavior in an economic crisis environment: a Romanian experimental perspective

2012

Abstract In the context of the current prolonged economic crisis, we were wondering if the typical behaviour of Romanians in terms of their ‘fairness’ has suffered any modification. This study is trying to identify the effect of psychological pressure created by the economic crisis on fairness using the Ultimatum Game. We aim to look at the question if this hypothetical phenomenon applies mostly to people who use economic information in their day-to-day life (e.g., economic science students) or if it also affects different populations (e.g., psychology students). Another aim is to understand if any difference is influenced mainly by vocational personalities as Holland hs described.

Age and ovarian development are related to worker personality and task allocation in the ant Leptothorax acervorum

2014

Abstract In social insects, workers of different morphological castes and age are known to act differently. Yet, it is unclear how body size and ovarian development influence worker personalities (i.e. consistent behavioral variation) and task allocation in similar aged ant workers of monomorphic species. Behavioral variation is thought to be a key element of division of labor, but few studies have linked worker personality to task allocation. We investigated individual behavior in Leptothorax acervorum ant workers at two time points during the first three months of their life and in two different settings. We observed worker behavior in the nest (i.e. task allocation) and in standardized a…

Personality Type D, Level of Perceived Stress, Insomnia, and Depression Among High School Teachers in Poland

2021

Teaching is inherently connected with specific burdens that may imply stressful situations. Psychological predispositions of the surveyed group, including personality type D (distressed personality) and level of experienced stress can cause depressive episodes and sleep disorders, which have a direct impact not only on health in terms of disease, but also on well-being and the ability to effectively and properly teach. The research group consisted of 412 high school teachers from the Silesian Province, located in the south of Poland. Using the following research tools: Type D Scale (DS14), Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10), Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), it w…
